Overview

The Smart Schools Development Initiative (SSDI) is an innovative programme by the Arullsamy Foundation designed to modernise education in Sri Lanka’s plantation and rural regions.

Too many schools still lack access to computers, internet, and modern teaching tools, leaving children unprepared for a digital world.

SSDI changes that reality by introducing smart classrooms, teacher training, and interactive learning technologies into under-resourced schools. Our goal is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every child learns in a classroom that inspires creativity, innovation, and curiosity.

Transforming Classrooms into Digital Learning Hubs

Our Goal

To build a network of technology-empowered schools across Sri Lanka where students and teachers can access modern digital tools, bridging the technological gap between urban and rural education systems.

Lasting change

Each Smart School becomes a hub for creativity and innovation, preparing students for a technology-driven future.

Our Pilot Model

The Arullsamy Foundation can convert one rural or plantation school into a model Smart School.

This includes:

  • Installing a smart classroom system(interactive board, projector, computers).
  • Training 10–15 teachersin digital pedagogy.
  • Providing software licences and e-learning content.
  • Refurbishing classroomsto make them bright, connected learning spaces.
  • Conducting monitoring and impact reviewsevery quarter.

This pilot directly benefits 400–500 students and serves as a blueprint for expanding the model to other schools across Sri Lanka.

Equal opportunity, digital confidence, and a brighter future

Why It Matters

In today’s world, digital knowledge is not optional — it’s essential.
Students from rural schools often face a digital disadvantage that limits their career choices and self-confidence.

By supporting SSDI, you help bridge this divide and give young learners the tools to thrive in an evolving global economy.

Your contribution doesn’t just buy technology — it builds equal opportunity, digital confidence, and a brighter future for an entire community.
