SHI
Safe HomesInitiative
Overview
The Safe Homes Initiative (SHI) by the Arullsamy Foundation is a heartfelt mission to ensure that every Sri Lankan family, especially those in plantation and rural areas, lives in a safe, stable, and dignified home.
In many communities, families still live in fragile houses with leaking roofs, weak walls, or no proper sanitation. Children study under unsafe conditions, and families face the constant fear of collapse during heavy rains or landslides.
The SHI exists to change that reality — one home, one family, one life at a time.
Because Every Family Deserves a Roof of Safety and Dignity
Our Goal
To provide safe, durable, and dignified housing for vulnerable families, while promoting awareness on hygiene, safety, and disaster resilience.
What We Do
Through the Safe Homes Initiative, the Arullsamy Foundation works hand-in-hand with local communities to create lasting change:
Build and repair homes
for low-income families living in unsafe or temporary shelters.
in existing homes.
in existing homes.
Conduct safety awareness workshops
on hygiene, home maintenance, and disaster preparedness.
Engage families in construction efforts
creating ownership and pride in their new homes.
Lasting change
Each project brings not only a stronger home, but also renewed hope and security for families who have struggled for generations.
Our Pilot Model
With a focused ₨ 1 million, the Arullsamy Foundation can transform the lives of multiple families through the Safe Homes Initiative.
Each pilot project includes:
- Construction or repair of 2–3 homes, including sanitation and roofing improvements.
- Safety and hygiene workshopsfor the entire community.
- Volunteer and family participation, ensuring sustainability and cost efficiency.
This small investment provides permanent protection, dignity, and peace of mind for families who once lived in fear.
Every roof built is a symbol of compassion. Every wall raised is a step toward equality.
Why It Matters
A home is more than a building — it is a foundation for life.
When families live in safety, children perform better in school, women have privacy and security, and communities thrive with confidence.
Supporting SHI means restoring human dignity — giving families a safe place to dream, to rest, and to rebuild their futures.
Every roof built is a symbol of compassion. Every wall raised is a step toward equality.
How Donors Can Help

Our Vision
The Arullsamy Foundation believes that no family should live in fear under a broken roof.
Through the Safe Homes Initiative, we are rebuilding communities — one brick, one wall, one dream at a time — ensuring every Sri Lankan family can stand tall in the safety of their own home.
